MSR – Artists Of The Year 2018

So today I will be doing my first ever Artists of the year special since CMT (Country Music Television) did their all woman edition.  And I don’t have a problem with it.  But some artists also had good years deserve to get some credit as well.  And as I said It’s my first time doing this.  So let’s see which 7 I pick this year.

Carrie Underwood – Artist of a lifetime award.

I am giving this award to her based on her 2 number one videos and they also spent the most total times at number one for the year.  "The champion" (7 times featuring Ludacris), & “Cry pretty” (15 times) and she also released her new album this year as well.  So now to the next artist that we honor.

Scotty McCreery “Five more minutes” (2 times total at number one this year and not even counting last year as well), & “This is it” (9 times so far on top of charts this year).

Thomas RhettWell he did have the number one for the year for a long while with “Marry me” (9 times) and also getting “Life changes” (1 time so far) to the top.

Blake SheltonThe numbers don’t lie with the hits like “I lived it” (8 times at the top of the charts), and “I’ll name the dogs” (5 times to the top).  And he was so close to adding more times to the top with “I lived it” getting number 2 on my list (Midnight Star Report) 4 times in a row.

Luke Bryan3 different songs to the top totaling 10 times.  "Light it up" (6 times),  "Most people are good" (3 times), & Sunrise, sunburn, sunset (1 times to the top so far).

Jason Aldean Having two songs going to the top but only totaling 6 times.  "You make it easy" (3 times total), & “Drowns the whiskey” (3 times total), but the song helped Miranda Lambert reach the top for the first time in like two years.

Brett YoungWith 2 different songs to the top this year.  "Mercy" (2 times), & “Like I loved you” (4 times total).  And he did get his first number one and second number one on my list this year.  I think he is very deserving of this honor.

Honorable Mentions

This is for some big shockers on the year 2018.

Darius Rucker“For the first time” (topped the charts 4 times total).

Chris JansonHaving 2 different songs on the list “Fix a drink”, & “Drunk girl” both topping the list 3 times total.

LANcoStarting our year with “Greatest love story” (2 times total).

Chris YoungHaving 2 songs top the list a total of 4 times “Losing sleep”, & “Hangin’ on” so far.

Kane BrownHaving 2 songs top the list a total of 8 times “Heaven” (3 times), & “Lose it” (5 times topping the list so far).

Florida Georgia LineFGL have 2 songs top the charts so far “Meant to be, which features Bebe Rexha”, & “Up down which features Morgan Wallen”.  Simple is making it’s way up the charts as we speak now.

Old Dominion“Written in the sand” has gone to the top & “Hotel key” will probably top the charts next week.

Thanks for taking the time to read this special report celebrating Artists of the year based on the MSR (Midnight Star Report), which is my list which combines both GAC (Great American Country), & CMT (Country Music Television) which do their weekly country music video countdowns.  See ya all next time.

Wild one.
Tell me why I haven’t heard from you?
Man I feel like a woman.
Cry pretty.

And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would give this special show a 3 out of 5 stars.  Somewhat felt like it was average except for maybe Carrie Underwood’s ending.  But probably a good start to see if CMT (Country Music Television) sticks with this for another year.  Thanks for taking the time to read this review.  See ya all next time.

MSR – Eric Church – Desperate Man

So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I will be talking about the latest album from country music superstar Eric Church.  This cd was titled “Desperate Man” and was released on October 5th, 2018 Friday.  There are 11 tracks on this album and all were co-written by Eric himself.

Now a little about what we may remember from Eric Church.  Eric Church has two number ones on the MSR (Midnight Star Report) which is my list that combines both GAC (Great American Country), CMT (Country Music Television), and lastly I make the final decisions on the matters.  Those number 1s have been “Record year”, & “Round here buzz”.  Also his hit “Kill a word” made a strong showing on the weekly list.  Now to this album.

Songs that we know from this album is of course the title track “Desperate man” which has made it to the top ten on my weekly list as of right now.  His next single could be “Heart like a wheel” which Eric is always good at showing us what all he can do and especially on his “Double down” tour where he has no opening act again.  "Hippie radio" pays tribute to songs like “Carry on my wayward son”, & “Cats in the cradle and a silver spoon”.  I think the stand out tracks are “Some of it”, & “Solid”.  And here is the track list now.

Track list.
1. The snake.
2. Hangin’ around.
3. Heart like a wheel.
4. Some of it.
5. Monsters.
6. Hippie radio.
7. Higher wire.
8. Desperate man.
9. Solid.
10. Jukebox and a bar.
11. Drowning man.

And that’s a wrap for the track list.  And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would give this album a 4.5 out of 5 stars.  I wished Eric would have gave us more music on this album.  And since it was such a long wait in between music for Eric.  But I know I did truly enjoy this new cd.  Thanks as always for taking the time to read this review.  See ya all next time.

MSR – Carrie Underwood – Cry Pretty

So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would be talking about the newest album from country music superstar Carrie Underwood.  This album was released on September 14th, 2018 and was titled “Cry pretty”.

So now what can we remember from Carrie’s career.  A lot and I am going to bring up some highlights from her huge career.  A former American idol winner, and her debut single “Jesus, take the wheel”.  Carrie and Brad Paisley have teamed up to host the CMAs (Country Music Awards) for the 11th time in a row.  And other big hits from Carrie are “Before he cheats”, “See you again”, “Church bells”, & “The fighter” (Duet with Keith Urban).  And I am just naming a few of her hits.  Now back to the new album.

On “Cry pretty” we can find there is an exclusive version from Target with features 16 pages of images of Carrie in the studio, behind the scenes, and with her family.  And there is a bonus track which Carrie did for the Super Bowl “The champion” and with Ludacris.  And with “Cry Pretty” on the MSR (Midnight Star Report), those 2 songs have both gone number ones on the weekly report which combines GAC (Great American Country), & CMT (Country Music Television) together on a weekly list as one.

And another single Carrie has released is “Love wins” and she pays tribute to Hank Williams, & George Jones along with others with “Ghosts on the stereo”.  There are 13 tracks on this new cd.  And other standouts on this album are “Backsliding”, “The bullet”, & “That song that we used to make love to”. If you want you can go check them out.  Now the track list.

Track list.
1. Cry pretty.
2. Ghosts on the stereo.
3. Low.
4. Backsliding.
5. Southbound.
6. That song that we used to make love to.
7. Drinking alone.
8. The bullet.
9. Spinning bottles.
10. Love wins.
11. End up with you.
12. Kingdom.
13. The champion (Featuring Ludacris Bonus track).

So on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would give this album a 5 out of 5 stars.  Carrie has really put her heart into making this album.  And you can see that when you hear some of the music from this new album.  Thanks for taking the time to read this review.  See ya all next time.
